Meet Dr. Bhatia
Kamal Bhatia, MD, FAPA is a board-certified psychiatrist at Old Georgetown Mental Health Associates in Rockville, MD. He is committed to evidence-based medication management combined with the thoughtful integration of standardized psychotherapeutic techniques, grounded in a deeply held belief in the importance of respect and compassion in care.
Dr. Bhatia completed a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center in 2014, and his training and clinical experience span several highly regarded institutions, including Duke University, Georgetown University, and Sheppard Pratt. Over more than a decade in practice, he has worked across the full range of clinical settings — high-acuity inpatient units, day hospitals, and outpatient clinics — and is experienced in the administration of neuromodulation treatments, including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
Dr. Bhatia helps adults facing challenges such as relationship difficulties, a decline in functioning, depression, anxiety, insomnia, attention difficulties, and other mood disorders. His approach centers on careful diagnosis and individualized treatment planning, and he consistently fosters collaborative relationships with therapists to formulate a care plan suited to each patient. He encourages patients to ask questions and to take an active role in their own care.
Dr. Bhatia offers both in-person and virtual appointments for adult patients. He does not directly participate with insurance companies; many insurance policies include out-of-network benefits that may reimburse a portion of the cost, and the practice's billing assistant can help with that process.
